2017 candidates for Governor of NJ

Democratic Party candidate Phil Murphy



Phil Murphy, 59, served as US Ambassador to Germany from 2009-2013. Ambassador Murphy holds an undergraduate degree from Harvard during which time he served as President of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals. He then went on to get an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Ambassador Murphy had a long career working at Goldman Sachs, from which he retired in 2006.

Republican Party candidate Kim Guadagno



Kim Guadagno, 58, currently serves at Lieutenant Governor of the State of New Jersey and Secretary of State of New Jersey. She was elected as running mate of current Governor Chris Christie in both 2009 and 2013. She is a graduate of Ursinus College and American University Law School. She has a long history of service in law enforcement. She had previously served as Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York and the District of New Jersey, Assistant Attorney General for the State of New Jersey, Deputy Chief of United States Attorney’s office of corruption unit, and one term as Monmouth County Sheriff.
