Meet the Panelists

Marc Chaaban

Marc Chaaban is a New Jersey–based Democratic political communicator and former congressional staffer who has quickly emerged as a voice for a new generation of political engagement. A Morris County native and son of Lebanese immigrants, Marc began his career on Capitol Hill, including serving as press secretary for the House Budget Committee, before building a large digital platform focused on making politics more accessible to younger audiences. In 2025, he brought that message directly to the ballot as a candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th District, running on themes of affordability, political reform, and generational change. His work sits at the intersection of policy, media, and grassroots engagement, offering a fresh perspective on how politics is communicated and understood today.

Councilman Ross Traphagen

Ross Traphagen is a three-term Councilman in the Town of Clinton, a swing town where elections are hard-fought and closely decided. In his most recent re-election, Ross won by 4 percentage points as a Republican, even as Mikie Sherrill carried the town by 12 points – a 16-point swing that highlights his ability to earn broad, bipartisan support. In 2023, Ross ran for the State Assembly in New Jersey’s 16th Legislative District, which was one of the top three most competitive races in the state that year. The race garnered millions of dollars in spending between the campaigns and outside groups. A government affairs and public relations professional, Ross brings a results-driven, commonsense approach to local government, where he is focused on fiscal responsibility, strong public safety, and protecting the character of Clinton. Ross is an active community leader outside of elective office, serving as a Trustee of South Branch Emergency Services, a Board Member of the Clinton Guild Business Association, and an Executive Board Member of Scouting America – Washington Crossing Council. Ross is married to his wife, Megan, and is the proud father of their two-year-old daughter, Jane, and soon to be baby boy coming in April.

Sunni Vargas

Sunni is a seasoned political strategist and policy advocate, with a strong background in grassroots organizing and democratic enhancement. A proud first-generation college graduate, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations from Monmouth University. She has managed clean energy campaigns with the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters and later led legislative and political efforts with the Communications Workers of America (CWA). Born in Rahway, New Jersey, and raised across Union, Essex, and Ocean Counties, Sunni draws from a deep connection to her community. She proudly embraces her Puerto Rican and Italian heritage and is committed to making a positive impact in New Jersey and beyond. Currently, she serves as an elected Democratic County Committeewoman and Municipal Chair in Lacey Township, in addition to being the President of the Ocean County Young Democrats. She currently serves as the Political Director at the Working Families Party, where she continues to drive efforts for social justice and policy reform.

Councilwoman Diya Patel

Diya Patel serves as a Councilwoman for the Township of Parsippany–Troy Hills, where she was sworn into office in January 2026 to represent her hometown community. A proud graduate of the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District, she earned her bachelor’s degrees in political science and criminal justice from the University of Scranton, where she held leadership roles in student government and mentorship programs. She is currently pursuing her Juris Doctor at Pace University School of Law, further strengthening her foundation in public service and municipal governance. Prior to joining the Council, Diya worked in the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office, gaining firsthand experience in the legal system and public safety. As the daughter of immigrant parents and a lifelong Parsippany resident, she brings both personal connection and professional insight to her work, with a focus on responsive local government, accessibility, and community-centered development.

Shayla Nunn

After graduating from New York University with a degree in political science, Shayla embarked on a career in politics, channeling her passion for governance and public service. Her early professional journey saw active involvement in various political campaigns, where Shayla honed her skills and contributed to the democratic process. Seeking new opportunities, she made the strategic move to New Jersey, embracing the challenges and dynamics of a different political landscape. In her role as a legislative staffer, she continues to play a crucial role in shaping and implementing policies, further solidifying her commitment to making a positive impact on the legislative front. Through this journey, she hopes to continue expanding her dedication to political engagement and advocacy by helping Gen-Z candidates run for elected office.

Ethan Block

Ethan Block is a progressive campaign communications strategist known for helping candidates and causes connect with their audiences through compelling, digital-first storytelling. Working across local, state, and federal campaigns, he specializes in translating complex policy issues into engaging social media content that drives voter engagement and builds grassroots momentum. Ethan previously served as Social Media Manager for Sue Altman’s congressional campaign and as Communications Coordinator for State Senator Andrew Zwicker, where he helped shape messaging, manage digital platforms, and amplify campaign and legislative priorities. With a strong understanding of the modern media landscape, he brings a creative and strategic approach to political communications, focused on meeting voters where they are and building authentic connections that move campaigns forward.

Danielle O’Byrne

Danielle O’Byrne is a New Jersey native and longtime political operative. With nearly a decade of experience managing complex, high-stakes campaigns and multimillion-dollar budgets across New Jersey and in states across the country. Most recently Danielle started her own campaign strategy firm, consulting for two congressional races and two county parties. Danielle’s professional background includes senior leadership roles in major political organizations and campaigns including Joe Biden’s 2020 and 2024 Presidential campaigns and Ras Baraka’s campaign for Governor. Her experience spans 9 states and nearly 20 campaigns. She has managed teams of more than 20 staff and volunteers, overseen seven-figure budgets, and coordinated with local leaders, labor organizations, and state parties. Danielle led national donor engagement and reporting programs that raised more than $20 million for the Biden-Harris campaign in 2024 spearheading a first-of-its-kind donor retention program. Danielle is a proud Jersey girl and a dual citizen of Ireland. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Rutgers University and completed international study at University College Dublin.

Mayor Quinton Law

Quinton Law made history in 2025 as the youngest person elected mayor of Moorestown and the first Black mayor in the township’s history. Alongside his role in local government, he serves as the New Jersey Government Relations Director for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, where he advocates for policies that improve public health and expand access to care. Deeply committed to service both inside and outside of government, he also serves as Scholarship Chair for the Moorestown Alumni Association, supporting the next generation of students in his community. Mayor Law brings a dynamic, forward-looking approach to leadership, focused on equity, opportunity, and delivering results for residents.

Board of Education Member Isaiah Gomez

Isaiah Gomez serves on the Perth Amboy Board of Education, where he advocates for students, educators, and families with a strong focus on equity and opportunity. In addition to his role on the Board, he is the Executive Vice President of the Perth Amboy Young Democrats and Chair of the New Jersey Young Democrats Latino Caucus, reflecting his deep commitment to civic engagement and empowering the next generation of leaders. Professionally, Isaiah brings a strong communications background to his work, serving as a Media Content Specialist at Middlesex County Magnet Schools and as Director of Communications for the Middlesex County Young Democrats. Across these roles, he combines policy, organizing, and storytelling to advance meaningful change and improve outcomes for his community.

Councilman Chris Allen

Chris Allen serves as a Councilman in Belvidere and is the Republican Municipal Chairman, playing a key role in local leadership and party organization. He also serves as Chief of Staff to State Senator Doug Steinhardt, where he helps manage legislative priorities, district operations, and constituent services. In addition, Chris is the Executive Director of the Warren County Republican Committee, overseeing countywide strategy and party-building efforts. With experience spanning municipal government, legislative operations, and political organizing, he brings a comprehensive perspective on governance, advocacy, and the mechanics of local and state politics in New Jersey.
