Additionally, 6 of the mayors were elected to the office as their first elected position and only 3 out of the 12 are women.

Though none of the mayors of the 10 most populous cities in America in 2017 were YELs, nearly half of them started their careers as YELs and nearly all of them started their careers as members of the city council. Additionally, all 10 mayors were men.
